B.G.

B.G., born Christopher Noel Dorsey in New Orleans, Louisiana, rose to national prominence as a member of the Hot Boys, the Cash Money Records group he formed alongside Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Turk in the late 1990s. The group's hits, including «I Need a Hot Girl» and «We on Fire», helped establish New Orleans hip-hop and the Cash Money sound on the national stage during the label's late-90s breakout run.

As a solo artist, B.G. built his reputation with the 1999 album Chopper City in the Ghetto, anchored by the single «Bling Bling», whose title became a genuine piece of pop-culture vocabulary and later entered the dictionary — a phrase B.G. has said grew simply out of the way people talked in New Orleans. His delivery drew on gritty street narratives delivered in a distinctive Southern cadence, cementing his place as one of the defining voices of Cash Money's early identity.

His career was interrupted in 2012 when he was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on gun possession and witness tampering charges. He was released in September 2023, reconnected with his Hot Boys collaborators, and resumed recording, describing his return to music as picking up a story he still has left to tell.
