Beastie Boys

Beastie Boys were an American hip-hop group formed in New York City, originally as a hardcore punk outfit before pivoting to rap. The classic lineup consisted of Michael «Mike D» Diamond, Adam «MCA» Yauch, and Adam «Ad-Rock» Horovitz, whose interplay of rapid-fire, overlapping vocals became one of the group's defining features. They broke through with the 1986 album «Licensed to Ill», the first rap album to top the Billboard 200, driven by the anthem «Fight for Your Right».

The group's second album, «Paul's Boutique» (1989), produced with the Dust Brothers, was a dense, sample-heavy work that initially underperformed commercially but is now widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative hip-hop records ever made. Beastie Boys continued to evolve across «Check Your Head» and «Ill Communication», blending rap, punk, funk, and live instrumentation, and later delivered club and DJ-culture touchstones like «Intergalactic» and «So What'cha Want».

Known for their playful, absurdist lyrics alongside genuine musical experimentation, Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The group became inactive following the death of Adam Yauch that same year, leaving behind a catalog that helped bridge punk, hip-hop, and alternative culture.
