Beanie Sigel

Beanie Sigel, born Dwight Grant in Philadelphia, is a rapper who rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a key member of Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records. His gritty, street-level lyricism and dense, technically sharp flow made him one of the label's most respected rappers, earning him the nickname «The Broad Street Bully» after his native Philadelphia street.

Sigel's 2000 debut album «The Truth» established him as a premier voice in East Coast hardcore rap, and he went on to lead State Property, the Philadelphia rap collective he fronted alongside artists like Freeway. He appeared on numerous Jay-Z tracks and Roc-A-Fella compilations during the label's early-2000s peak, and his catalogue includes albums such as «The Reason» and «The B. Coming».

Sigel's career has been marked by legal troubles and prison sentences that repeatedly interrupted his output, along with a well-documented public falling out and later reconciliation with Jay-Z. Despite these setbacks, he remains regarded as one of the most gifted pure lyricists to come out of Roc-A-Fella and Philadelphia hip-hop, influencing a generation of East Coast street rappers with his uncompromising, autobiographical style.
