Baco Exu do Blues

Baco Exu do Blues, born Diogo Moncorvo in Salvador, Bahia, is a Brazilian rapper and one of the founders of the independent label 999. He rose to national attention in 2016 with the track «Sulicídio», a raw, confessional song that resonated widely within Brazilian rap and marked him as one of the year's standout new voices. His writing draws on the streets and culture of Salvador, blending sharp, often violent metaphors with deeply personal reflection.

Musically, Baco moves fluidly between rap, soul, and R&B influences, favoring dense, literary lyricism over conventional hooks. His solo catalog includes the EP OldMonkey and the albums Esú and Bluesman, both of which explore themes of race, religion, love, and self-destruction with unusual candor. He has also been part of the now-defunct group D.D.H. («Direto do Hospício»), alongside Mobbzilla and DJ Sly, releasing a self-titled EP together.

Baco Exu do Blues is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from Bahia's rap scene, valued for his willingness to confront uncomfortable subjects and his refusal to fit neatly into mainstream Brazilian rap conventions.
