Angel Haze

Angel Haze is a rapper and singer from Detroit, Michigan, who emerged in the early 2010s known for intensely personal, confessional lyricism. Raised partly within a Christian cult and marked by childhood sexual abuse, Haze channeled that trauma directly into music, most notably on the widely circulated cover of Eminem's «Cleaning Out My Closet». Breakout mixtapes King and Reservation established a reputation for rapid-fire flows and raw honesty, leading to a spot in XXL's 2013 Freshman Class and a major-label deal that produced the debut album Dirty Gold.

Haze's music moves fluidly between rap, pop and R&B, often blurring genre lines within a single project, and tracks like «Werkin' Girls», «Battle Cry» and «New York» showcase both technical rap skill and pop sensibility. The freestyle over Macklemore's «Same Love» became one of the most talked-about moments of the marriage-equality debate in hip-hop, reflecting Haze's openness about sexuality and identity throughout their career.

After parting ways with major-label backing, Haze released Back to the Woods independently in 2015, embracing a rawer, self-directed sound. In 2018 the artist announced a name transition to Roes, marking a new personal and artistic chapter beyond the Angel Haze era.
