Andre Nickatina

Andre Nickatina, born Andre L. Adams in 1970, is an American rapper from San Francisco, California, widely regarded as a Bay Area hip-hop legend. He began his recording career in the early 1990s under the name Dre Dog, releasing tracks like «The New Jim Jones» through the independent local label In-A-Minute Records before rebranding himself as Andre Nickatina in the mid-1990s to establish a distinct artistic identity.

His early work carried a rough, menacing delivery with dark, sometimes violent imagery, but over the course of his career his style evolved into a smoother, more melodic flow while retaining his street-level storytelling. Nickatina built a devoted independent fanbase largely outside the mainstream industry system, cultivating what became a cult following across the Bay Area and among college listeners west of the Mississippi.

Known in San Francisco as «King Nicky», he became known for recurring cocaine-related themes and vivid narrative lyricism across albums and tracks such as «Ayo For Yayo», «Killa Whale», and «Dice of Life (The Bottle)». His independent, DIY approach to releasing music and building an audience made him an influential figure in West Coast underground rap, respected for staying true to a distinctly regional sound even as his profile grew nationally.
