Alison Krauss & Union Station is an American bluegrass and country ensemble fronted by fiddler and vocalist Alison Krauss, formed in the late 1980s and signed to Rounder Records. The current lineup pairs Krauss with guitarist and vocalist Dan Tyminski, banjo player Ron Block, bassist Barry Bales and dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas, one of the most celebrated units in modern bluegrass. Krauss herself became a genre-defining figure while still a teenager, winning acclaim for her crystalline, understated voice long before crossing into mainstream country and pop audiences.

The band's sound blends traditional bluegrass instrumentation with polished, radio-friendly arrangements, favoring close harmonies, restrained tempos and heartbreak-driven storytelling over flashy virtuosity, even though every member is a formidable instrumentalist. Albums such as So Long So Wrong, New Favorite, Lonely Runs Both Ways and Paper Airplane showcase this balance, moving between barn-burning instrumentals and tender ballads. Their signature hit «When You Say Nothing at All», a Keith Whitley cover, became a crossover country and pop success and remains one of the most recognizable bluegrass-rooted recordings of the era.

Beyond their own catalog, Krauss and the group have been central to bluegrass's broader visibility, including their contributions to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack and Krauss's high-profile collaboration with Robert Plant on Raising Sand. Union Station's musicianship, especially Douglas's dobro work and Tyminski's lead vocals on tracks like «The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn», has helped keep traditional acoustic music commercially viable for decades.
