About the artist
Al James, born Alvin James P. Manlutac, is a Filipino R&B and rap artist who grew up in a music-loving family, being the youngest of four siblings, several of whom are musicians or performers themselves. He is associated with the collectives Baryo Berde Atbp. and 5th Wave Theory, groups that helped shape the modern Filipino urban and R&B scene.
His music blends smooth R&B vocals with rap and pop sensibilities, often addressing romantic and everyday themes in Tagalog and English. Tracks such as «Ngayong Gabi», «Pahinga» and «Pa-Umaga» showcase his laid-back, melodic style, while songs like «Atin-Atin Lang» and «Pwede Ba» highlight his ability to write intimate, conversational lyrics over contemporary urban production.
Al James is regarded as part of a generation of independent Filipino artists who helped popularize homegrown R&B and hip-hop, building an audience through streaming and collaborative projects with peers in the local OPM (Original Pilipino Music) urban scene.
