Agust D

Agust D is the solo hip-hop persona of Min Yoongi, better known as SUGA, lead rapper of the South Korean group BTS. The name is built from two anagrams: «Agus» reverses his BTS stage name Suga, while «T D» references D-Town, the underground hip-hop crew he was part of in his hometown Daegu before joining BTS. Where his BTS work sits within a broader idol-group framework, Agust D allows him a rawer, more personal and confessional mode of expression.

He introduced the persona in 2016 with the free mixtape Agust D, tackling themes of depression, fame and his own artistic doubts over dense, hard-edged rap production. The sequel D-2, released in 2020, expanded his sound while retaining that unfiltered lyrical honesty, and topped iTunes album charts in over a hundred countries. In 2023 he released D-DAY, his first solo studio album proper, closing what became known as the Agust D trilogy and supporting it with a world tour.

Across the project, songs like «대취타 (Daechwita)», «Tony Montana» and «저 달 (Moonlight)» showcase his range, from aggressive trap-influenced tracks rooted in traditional Korean instrumentation to more introspective, melodic material featuring guest collaborators. Agust D is widely regarded as one of the most artistically significant side projects to emerge from the K-pop scene.
