Afu-Ra is an American underground rapper from Brooklyn, New York, closely associated with the Gang Starr Foundation. He rose to prominence in the mid-1990s through his affiliation with Jeru the Damaja, appearing as a guest voice on Jeru's debut album before launching his own solo career. His style is marked by a dense, philosophical lyrical approach, drawing heavily on Five-Percent Nation terminology, martial arts imagery, and chess metaphors, delivered over boom-bap production rooted in the East Coast underground sound of the era.

His debut solo album, «Body of the Life Force», released in 2000, is considered a cornerstone of underground hip-hop and features production tied to the Gang Starr camp, including work connected to DJ Premier. The record built a reputation for Afu-Ra as a technically skilled MC with a commanding, gravelly voice and a preacher-like cadence.
