About the artist

A.D.O.R., born Eddie Castellanos, is an American hip hop artist who emerged in the early 1990s New York rap scene. He is best known for two singles released on Atlantic Records: «Let It All Hang Out» (1992), produced by Pete Rock, and «One for the Trouble» (1994), produced by Marley Marl. Working with two of the era's most respected boom-bap producers placed A.D.O.R. firmly within the golden-age New York sound of dense sampling and jazzy, soulful loops.

While A.D.O.R.'s own recorded output remained relatively small, his catalog left a lasting mark through sampling. «One for the Trouble» in particular became a much-sourced record, most famously providing the vocal hook for Fatboy Slim's 1998 remix of Roger «Wildchild» MacKenzie's «Renegade Master», which turned into a major crossover club hit in the UK. That afterlife through sampling and remix culture is arguably what introduced A.D.O.R. to a much wider international audience than his original releases reached.

Today A.D.O.R. is remembered less as a chart act and more as a figure whose work sits at an interesting crossroads of early-90s East Coast hip hop and the big-beat/dance remix scene of the late 1990s.
