About the artist
Adje, born Julmar Simons, is a Dutch rapper of Curaçaoan descent who grew up in the Bijlmermeer district of Amsterdam. Inspired by American hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, he began releasing music online around 2008 under the name Ado'nis, later changing his stage name to Adjedonnie and finally settling on Adje. His debut project, titled «Who the fuck is Ado'nis?», introduced his raw, street-oriented style rooted in the Dutch hip-hop scene.
Adje built his early reputation alongside his half-brothers Hef and Crooks, releasing the mixtape «Boyz in de hood vol. 1», which earned the trio a State Award nomination and eventually a win. Around 2010 he began a close collaboration with producer Reverse, with whom he recorded several mixtapes and performed at the Noorderslag festival. He also joined forces with The Partysquad and Jayh on the single «Ik ga hard», which reached number eight on the Dutch Top 100, and contributed verses to tracks by numerous other artists in the scene.
Beyond music, Adje co-wrote the theatre production Gestolen tijd, aimed at steering young people away from criminal paths, reflecting the socially conscious side of his artistry. His catalogue spans hard-edged rap, pop-leaning hooks and R&B textures, with tracks like «Hele Meneer», «Gangsta», «Ken Je Me Nog» and «Dat Is Hoe Ik Chill Nu» showing his range across the genres associated with his work.
