Abd Al Malik

Abd Al Malik is a French rapper, writer and filmmaker born in Paris in 1975 and raised in the Neuhof neighborhood of Strasbourg, a background that deeply shapes his work. He began his career within the collectives N.A.P. (Nouvelle Africa Poesie) and Bimbolo Squad-adjacent projects before launching a solo career defined by a literary, jazz- and chanson-inflected style that sets him apart from mainstream French rap. His verses draw as much from Sufi spirituality, philosophy and French literary tradition as from hip-hop, giving his music a reflective, almost spoken-word quality.
