A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Athelaston Mayers in Harlem, New York, emerged in the early 2010s as one of the most fashion-forward and sonically distinctive voices in modern rap. A founding face of the A$AP Mob collective, he built his early reputation on a laid-back, melodic flow influenced by Houston's chopped-and-screwed sound and by fellow Harlem artist Max B, setting him apart from the more aggressive East Coast rap of the era.

His 2011 mixtape LIVE.LOVE.A$AP, featuring «Peso» and «Purple Swag», introduced his hazy, atmospheric production style and earned him a major-label deal. His 2013 debut album Long.Live.A$AP built on that foundation while broadening his palette, and subsequent releases like At.Long.Last.A$AP pushed further into psychedelic and rock-tinged territory, reflecting his wide-ranging taste in fashion and art as much as music.
