88GLAM

88GLAM is a Canadian hip-hop duo from Toronto formed by Derek Wise and 88 Camino in early 2017. The pair had already been collaborating on individual tracks before deciding to record together as a group, quickly drawing attention with singles like «12» and «Bali», whose videos helped push them into a wider audience. They were signed to XO Records, the label founded by fellow Toronto artist The Weeknd, and their self-titled debut album 88GLAM became a defining project of the city's mid-2010s rap wave.

Sonically, 88GLAM leans into moody, melodic trap production paired with laid-back yet confident deliveries, a style that fit comfortably alongside labelmates while carving its own identity through tracks such as «Lil Boat», «Kyrie», «It's a Flex», «Big Tymers», «Cake», and «Baby Bro». After parting ways with XO Records, the duo continued independently, releasing the mixtape NEW MANIA on June 26, 2020, which reaffirmed their sound outside of major-label backing.

Derek Wise later announced that the album CLOSE TO HEAVEN FAR FROM GOD would mark the end of 88GLAM as an active group, closing the chapter on one of Toronto's notable duo acts. Despite the group's dissolution, 88GLAM's catalogue remains a reference point for the city's contemporary rap and R&B sound, illustrating the tight relationship between melodic trap and Toronto's broader hip-hop ecosystem.
