Tokio Hotel

Tokio Hotel are a German rock band formed in Magdeburg in 2001 by twin brothers Bill Kaulitz (vocals) and Tom Kaulitz (guitar), together with drummer Gustav Schäfer and bassist Georg Listing. The band first tried to break through under the name Devilish before signing to Universal Music Germany and releasing their debut album Schrei in 2005, which turned them into teen idols across German-speaking Europe with hits like «Durch den Monsun» and «Schrei».

Their sound moved from anthemic, guitar-driven pop-rock toward glossier synth-pop and electronic textures as the band matured, a shift heard clearly on later releases such as «Automatic» and «Darkside of the Sun». Bill Kaulitz's distinctive, androgynous vocal delivery and the band's bold visual style made them one of the most recognizable German acts of the 2000s, with English-language versions of their songs, including «Monsoon» and «World Behind My Wall», helping them build an international following.

Tokio Hotel released several chart-topping albums and singles in Germany and Austria and toured extensively worldwide, cultivating one of Europe's most devoted teen fanbases. Later records such as Kings of Suburbia continued to push the band's sound toward darker, more electronic territory while retaining the melodic hooks and dramatic vocal style that defined their earlier work.
