NOFX is an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, known for fusing melodic hardcore punk with sharp, sarcastic lyricism and, at times, ska and pop-punk elements. Fronted by bassist and vocalist Fat Mike alongside guitarist Eric Melvin, guitarist El Hefe and drummer Erik Sandin, the band built its reputation as one of the most enduring acts of the Southern California punk scene, staying independent of major labels for the entirety of its career.
Much of the band's catalog was self-released or put out through Fat Mike's own label Fat Wreck Chords, as well as Epitaph Records, reflecting a deep commitment to punk's DIY ethos. Songs like «Linoleum», «The Decline», «Franco Un-American» and «The Separation of Church and Skate» showcase the band's mix of blistering musicianship, political commentary and dark humor, while tracks such as «The Brews» and «Six Years on Dope» reveal a more personal, confessional streak beneath the irreverence.
NOFX's longevity and refusal to compromise commercially have made them influential figures within punk rock, respected for shaping the 1990s pop-punk and skate-punk sound while remaining critical of the mainstream music industry throughout their career. Their sound remains instantly identifiable, built on rapid tempos, technical bass work and Fat Mike's distinctive, biting vocal delivery.
