Земляне (Zemlyane) is a Soviet and later Russian rock band founded in Leningrad in 1969 by students of the Leningrad Radio Polytechnic College. Over the decades the group worked under several names, including «Апрель» in the mid-to-late 1970s and «Восточный Экспресс» around 1990, before returning to and settling on the name Земляне.
The band is best known for «Трава у дома», a song written to mark Soviet space achievements that became one of the most recognizable Soviet rock anthems of the 1980s, still closely associated with cosmonautics anniversaries and Russian space culture. Alongside that signature hit, songs like «Одиночество» and «Каскадёры» helped define a melodic, guitar-driven rock sound rooted in the Soviet vocal-instrumental ensemble tradition while carrying clear Western rock influence.
The group's history includes splits and legal disputes over the rights to the Земляне name, with founder Владимир Киселёв continuing to lead the band through numerous lineup changes over the following decades. Despite the turnover in personnel, Земляне has remained a fixture of Russian classic rock, with «Трава у дома» enduring as its defining cultural legacy.
