Do As Infinity

Do As Infinity are a Japanese pop-rock duo formed in the late 1990s, built around the songwriting of guitarist Ryo Owatari and, in the group's classic lineup, the powerful vocals of Tomiko Van. Emerging alongside Avex Trax's late-90s and early-2000s roster, the group became known for anthemic, melodically rich rock songs that frequently crossed over into anime and drama tie-ins, a route that brought them to a much wider audience than club or radio play alone would have.

Their best-known song, «深い森 (Fukai Mori)», served as an ending theme for the anime «Inuyasha» and remains one of the most recognisable Japanese pop-rock songs of its era, prized for its soaring chorus and the emotional clarity of Van's voice. Other tracks such as «真実の詩 (Shinjitsu no Uta)» and «陽のあたる坂道 (Slope in the Sun)» extended this same formula of guitar-driven pop-rock paired with strong vocal hooks, giving the group a consistent identity across singles and albums.

The group went through a significant lineup change when Van departed for a solo career in the mid-2000s, with Do As Infinity continuing in various forms afterward. Even with those changes, the band's core sound, warm acoustic and electric guitar work anchoring big, hook-driven choruses, remained a recognisable thread connecting their earlier anime-tied hits to their later material.
