Chevelle

Chevelle is an American rock band formed in 1995 in Grayslake, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. Originally a trio of brothers — Pete Loeffler on lead vocals and guitar, Sam Loeffler on drums, and Joe Loeffler on bass — the band built its sound around heavy, alternative-metal riffs paired with Pete’s distinctive, strained vocal delivery. After Joe’s departure in 2005, bassist Dean Bernardini, the Loefflers’ brother-in-law, joined and has remained with the group since.

Chevelle broke through with their second album, Wonder What’s Next (2002), which went platinum and produced the hit «The Red», followed by «Send the Pain Below» and «Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)» from subsequent releases. Their sound sits at the intersection of post-grunge and alternative metal, marked by tight, tension-driven arrangements, dynamic shifts between quiet verses and heavy choruses, and Pete Loeffler’s intense vocal delivery.

Over a career spanning multiple albums — including This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In), Vena Sera, Sci-Fi Crimes, Hats Off to the Bull, La Gárgola and The North Corridor — Chevelle has remained a consistent presence on rock radio, known for a disciplined, riff-focused approach and a lineup built on family ties. Their catalog reflects steady evolution while staying rooted in the heavy, melodic hard rock sound that defined their early success.
