Chastity Belt

Chastity Belt is an American indie rock band formed in Walla Walla, Washington in 2010, later relocating to Seattle. The group consists of Julia Shapiro, Lydia Lund, Annie Truscott, and Gretchen Grimm, and started out with a playful, feminist, punk-inflected sound before evolving into more introspective, atmospheric territory.

Their early records, including No Regerts and Time to Go Home, paired deadpan humor and sharp social commentary with jangly guitars, while later albums like I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone and Chastity Belt showed a shift toward dreamier, more melancholic songwriting influenced by post-punk and slowcore.

The band is a notable presence in the Pacific Northwest indie scene, valued for Shapiro's wry, conversational lyricism and the group's gradual maturation from irreverent bar-rock into a more nuanced, emotionally resonant sound, making them one of the more distinctive female-fronted rock bands to emerge from the 2010s DIY circuit.
