Blu, nascido Johnson Barnes III, é um rapper e produtor americano de Los Angeles, Califórnia, considerado um dos letristas mais respeitados do hip-hop underground dos anos 2000 e 2010. Ganhou destaque com a dupla Blu & Exile, cujo álbum de estreia Below the Heavens (2007) é visto como um clássico moderno por sua produção soul e versos introspectivos e tecnicamente densos.
Além do trabalho com Exile, Blu construiu um extenso catálogo de álbuns colaborativos com diversos produtores, incluindo Mainframe, Ta Raach, Bombay, Damu the Fudgemunk, Madlib, Nottz e Union. Essa abordagem baseada em projetos permitiu que ele reinventasse constantemente seu som mantendo seu jogo de palavras denso e sensibilidade soul. É uma figura central do coletivo de Los Angeles Dirty Science e codirige a gravadora New World Color, pela qual lançou boa parte de seu trabalho mais recente.
