Tori Amos es una cantautora y pianista estadounidense nacida en 1963, que comenzó su carrera en los años ochenta como vocalista del grupo pop Y Kant Tori Read antes de iniciar su carrera en solitario a principios de los noventa. Su álbum de ruptura, «Little Earthquakes», estableció su estilo característico: letras crudas y confesionales sobre una interpretación pianística virtuosa y de formación clásica.
Amos se convirtió en una de las voces más distintivas de la música alternativa gracias a álbumes como «Under the Pink» y «Boys for Pele», donde exploró con total honestidad temas como la sexualidad, la religión, el trauma y el feminismo, destacando especialmente en «Me and a Gun», una canción a capela sobre su propia experiencia de agresión sexual.
