The Hex Girls are a fictional rock band created for the Scooby-Doo franchise, first appearing in the 1999 television film Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, set in the fictional town of Oakhaven, Massachusetts. Fronted by Thorn, alongside bandmates Dusk and Luna, the trio present themselves as eco-goths, blending gothic aesthetics with environmentalist themes in both their look and their lyrics.
Musically the group leans into moody, guitar-driven rock with pop hooks, epitomized by their signature song «Hex Girl», which became an enduring favorite among fans of the franchise. Their sound and image were distinctive enough that the band transcended their original film, returning in later Scooby-Doo productions including Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire, the What’s New, Scooby-Doo? episode The Vampire Strikes Back, and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
Beyond their in-universe role as a band the Mystery Inc. gang encounters on their adventures, the Hex Girls became something of a minor cultural touchstone, frequently cited as an example of a well-crafted fictional band with real staying power, and their songs continue to be shared and covered by fans decades after their debut.
