MIKA (Michael Holbrook Penniman) is a British-Lebanese singer, songwriter and producer known for a flamboyant, theatrical brand of pop that draws on glam rock, classical melodrama and old-school showmanship. Born in Beirut and raised largely in Paris and London, he studied classical voice and piano from a young age, an academic grounding that shows in his wide vocal range and ornate arrangements.
MIKA’s breakthrough came in 2007 with the album «Life in Cartoon Motion» and its lead single «Grace Kelly», a falsetto-driven, unapologetically maximalist pop song that topped charts across Europe and established his cartoonish, brightly coloured visual identity — much of it designed in collaboration with his sister, the artist DaWack. Later albums such as «The Boy Who Knew Too Much» and «Life in Cartoon Motion»’s successors continued to pair confessional lyrics with big, hook-laden production.
Over the years MIKA has also built a reputation as a mentor and television personality, notably as a coach on «The Voice» franchises in France and Italy, while continuing to release music that mixes English, French and occasionally Arabic influences. His work occupies a distinctive space in pop music: unabashedly camp, vocally acrobatic, and rooted in a genuine songwriting craft that has kept him relevant across multiple eras of pop.
