Jeanette

Jeanette (Jeanette Anne Dimech) is a Spanish-British singer-songwriter who first became known in the 1960s as a member of the pop-folk group Pic-Nic. She went solo in 1971 and quickly rose to fame as a balladeer, scoring major hits with «Soy Rebelde» and «Porque Te Vas», the latter released through Hispavox and later gaining worldwide recognition after being featured in Carlos Saura's film «Cría Cuervos».

Her soft, intimate vocal style and melancholic, romantic songwriting made her one of the defining voices of Spanish pop balladry in the 1970s. In 1980 she signed with RCA and began a fruitful collaboration with the celebrated composer Manuel Alejandro, which produced some of the biggest songs of her career, including «Corazón de Poeta», «Frente a Frente», and «El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes».

Beyond Spanish-language releases, Jeanette also recorded in French, reflecting her international, bilingual upbringing. Her body of work helped shape the sound of Spanish pop for a generation, and songs like «Porque Te Vas» remain enduring classics, still widely covered and referenced in Spanish popular culture decades after their original release.
