Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp are an English electronic duo formed in London in 1999 by Alison Goldfrapp, who provides vocals and lyrics, and Will Gregory, a composer and synthesizer player. The pair met through mutual friends and bonded over an eclectic set of influences ranging from Polish disco to spaghetti-western film scores and British folk, and that magpie sensibility became the hallmark of their music from the very start.

Their 2000 debut album, «Felt Mountain», introduced a cinematic, icy brand of electronica built around Alison's dramatic vocals, earning the duo a devoted cult following and a Mercury Prize nomination. Rather than repeat that formula, Goldfrapp reinvented their sound on nearly every subsequent record, moving into glam-inflected electroclash on tracks like «Ooh La La» and «Strict Machine», pastoral acoustic folk, and shimmering synth-pop on songs such as «Ocean», «Human» and «Utopia».

Across seven studio albums the group became known as restless stylistic shape-shifters within British electronic pop, influencing a generation of artists while resisting easy categorization themselves. Their willingness to pivot between icy dancefloor anthems, dreamy balladry, and folk-tinged introspection remains their defining trait, and songs like «Lovely Head» and «Clowns» are often cited as key entry points into their catalogue.
