Foxygen

Foxygen is an American rock duo formed by Sam France and Jonathan Rado, known for a kaleidoscopic sound that draws heavily on 1960s psychedelia, garage rock, and glam, filtered through a distinctly modern, playful irreverence. After years of self-released, experimental EPs, the duo was discovered by producer Richard Swift, who went on to produce their breakthrough records.

Their debut studio album, Take the Kids Off Broadway, was released by Jagjaguwar in 2012, but it was their second album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic (2013), that brought them wider critical acclaim, driven by the single «Shuggie» and songs like «San Francisco». The record’s eclectic blend of Rolling Stones swagger, Bowie-esque theatricality, and Bob Dylan-inflected songwriting made Foxygen a standout act in the indie rock revival of the early 2010s.

Known for their unpredictable live shows and a restless, genre-hopping catalog, Foxygen continued to explore ambitious, theatrical concepts across subsequent releases, cementing their reputation as one of the more idiosyncratic and inventive rock acts to emerge from the 2010s indie scene.
