Sobre el artista
Chet Faker is the recording name of Australian musician Nick Murphy, born in Melbourne. He took the name as a playful homage to jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. Murphy first gained wide attention with a stripped-down, soulful cover of Blackstreet’s «No Diggity», which topped the Hype Machine charts in 2011 and introduced his blend of electronic production with a rich, soul-inflected voice.
His debut EP Thinking In Textures (2012) and standout single «I’m Into You» established him within Australia’s electronic and indie scene, and his 2013 collaboration with Kilo Kish, «Melt», alongside the Lockjaw EP made with Flume, further raised his profile. His full-length debut, Built On Glass (2014), cemented his sound: hazy, downtempo electronic beats layered under intimate, emotionally direct vocals, drawing comparisons to artists like James Blake.
Murphy has periodically stepped away from the Chet Faker name to record under his own, exploring a more organic, band-based sound, before returning to the moniker for later releases. Across both identities, his music is defined by warm production, confessional songwriting and a voice that moves fluidly between falsetto tenderness and soulful grit, making him one of the more distinctive figures to emerge from Australia’s electronic-R&B crossover in the 2010s.
