Sobre el artista
Chance the Rapper, nacido Chancelor Bennett en Chicago, surgió a principios de los años 2010 como uno de los artistas independientes más destacados del hip-hop. Construyó su reputación sin sello discográfico, publicando gratis en internet sus mixtapes 10 Day y el aclamado Acid Rap, y se hizo conocido por un estilo alegre, soulero y con influencias gospel que contrastaba con el sonido drill, más oscuro, que también salía de Chicago en esa época. Su música combina flujos rápidos y juguetones con canto, instrumentación en vivo e influencias de jazz y gospel.
Chance está estrechamente ligado al colectivo SAVEMONEY y a su frecuente colaborador Vic Mensa, y lidera la banda The Social Experiment, con la que publicó el álbum colaborativo Surf. Su mixtape de 2016, Coloring Book, fue un lanzamiento histórico: distribuido exclusivamente por streaming, ganó tres premios Grammy, incluido el de Mejor Álbum de Rap, y ayudó a que los proyectos exclusivos de streaming fueran reconocidos por la industria. Canciones alegres y de temática espiritual como «Blessings» y «No Problem» consolidaron su imagen de voz positiva y comunitaria dentro del rap.
Más allá de la música, Chance es conocido por su independencia de las grandes discográficas, su compromiso cívico con Chicago y colaboraciones con Kanye West, Justin Bieber y Donnie Trumpet. Su obra temprana sigue siendo influyente para artistas que buscan carreras fuera del sistema tradicional de sellos.
