Blue Swede

Blue Swede were a Swedish pop-rock band active between 1973 and 1975, fronted by singer Björn Skifs and built around a lineup that included Anders Berglund on piano, Bosse Liljedahl on bass, Hinke Ekestubbe on saxophone, Jan Guldbäck on drums, Michael Areklew on guitar, and Tommy Berglund on trumpet. The band specialized in cover versions rather than original material, reinterpreting existing songs with a bright, horn-accented pop-rock arrangement style typical of Scandinavian bands of the era.

Their defining moment came with a cover of «Hooked on a Feeling», originally a hit for B.J. Thomas, which Blue Swede reworked with an unmistakable «ooga-chaka» vocal hook that became one of the most recognizable openings in 1970s pop. The single became an international chart success, giving the group its lasting place in music history and later earning renewed fame decades on through its use in film soundtracks.

Alongside «Hooked on a Feeling», the band recorded further covers, including «(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me» and «Hush / I'm Alive», sustaining their run of hits for a short but impactful career. Skifs left to pursue a solo career, and the band disbanded in 1975, but «Hooked on a Feeling» kept Blue Swede's name alive well beyond their brief active period.
