Bazart

Bazart is a Belgian indie-pop group formed in Ghent by singer Mathieu Terryn and singer/guitarist Simon Nuytten, who began performing Dutch-language songs rooted in folk and pop traditions. After releasing their first EP, «Meer dan Ooit», the duo expanded into a full band by recruiting bassist Tom Goovaerts and drummer Robbe Veekman. In 2012 they added a third songwriter and frontman, Oliver Symons, rounding the lineup out to five members and setting the stage for a major stylistic shift.

Under Symons' growing interest in electronic production, Bazart's originally guitar-driven sound gradually evolved into something far more synth-heavy and polished, layering lush harmonies over atmospheric production. That transformation is audible across their second EP, «Bazart», and crystallized fully on their debut album, «Echo». The band has described its approach as essentially English-style pop songwriting delivered in their native Dutch, a philosophy that has helped define their identity within the Belgian and broader Flemish music scene.

Songs such as «Goud», «Nacht», and «Onder Ons» exemplify the band's blend of emotionally direct lyrics with expansive, radio-ready production, and Bazart has grown into one of the most recognizable Dutch-language pop acts of its generation, filling large venues and festival stages across Belgium and the Netherlands.
