Balance and Composure

Balance and Composure are an American rock band formed in 2007 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Emerging from the Northeast's post-hardcore and emo scenes, the band built its early reputation on a raw, melodic sound that drew comparisons to Nirvana and their scene contemporaries Title Fight, blending gritty guitar textures with introspective, often melancholic songwriting.

Over time the band's sound expanded beyond its hardcore roots, incorporating shoegaze-influenced atmosphere, dream pop textures, and moodier, more layered production, a shift heard across their catalog as they moved from tightly wound, aggressive tracks toward slower-burning, atmospheric songs. Their lineup has featured Jon Simmons on vocals and guitar, Erik Petersen and Andy Slaymaker on guitars, Matt Warner on bass, and Bailey Van Ellis on drums and programming.

Balance and Composure became a fixture of the 2010s American emo and post-hardcore revival, releasing music through independent labels associated with that scene and touring alongside many of its key bands.
