Andy Shauf

Andy Shauf is a Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Regina, Saskatchewan. Largely self-taught, he began playing music young thanks to a Radio Shack outlet run by his family, and started out in Christian music before drumming for a Christian pop-punk band. He began releasing solo material independently in the mid-2000s.

Shauf's early albums, including «Darker Days» and «The Bearer of Bad News», established him as a meticulous songwriter and arranger who records and plays nearly every instrument on his releases himself, giving his work a distinctive, intimate coherence. His breakthrough came with «The Party» in 2016, a concept album set at a single house party that earned widespread critical acclaim, a Polaris Music Prize nomination, and multiple Juno Award nominations. The record's best-known song, «The Magician», became his signature track.

Musically, Shauf favors soft-spoken vocals, woodwind textures — especially clarinet — and narrative, character-driven lyrics that unfold like short stories. His sound sits at the intersection of folk, chamber pop, and indie rock, marked by understatement rather than grand gestures. Tracks like «Wendell Walker» and «Quite Like You» showcase his gift for melancholic, detail-rich storytelling, cementing his reputation as one of Canada's most distinctive songwriters.
