AKMU (악뮤)

AKMU (also known as Akdong Musician) is a South Korean sibling duo consisting of Lee Chan-hyuk, who handles composing, rapping, and lead vocals, and Lee Su-hyun, the group's main vocalist. They first gained national attention on the singing competition show K-Pop Star 2, which they won, leading to a contract with YG Entertainment shortly afterward. Their band name, chosen for how easily it rolls off the tongue, was later given a warmer meaning by their mother: children who love to have fun.

What distinguishes AKMU within Korean pop is Chan-hyuk's songwriting, which draws on folk-pop storytelling, understated acoustic arrangements, and a conversational lyrical style, paired with Su-hyun's clear, expressive voice. The duo moves comfortably between gentle pop-rock, R&B-inflected ballads, and rap-driven tracks, often within the same release, giving their catalogue an unusually wide emotional range for a single act.
