Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., born Michael King Jr. in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929, was an American Baptist minister and the most prominent leader of the Civil Rights Movement, known for his advocacy of nonviolent civil disobedience inspired by Christian ethics and the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. He rose to national prominence during the Montgomery Bus Boycott and went on to lead campaigns against segregation and racial injustice across the American South and beyond.

His oratory remains foundational to American public speech, most famously the «I Have a Dream» speech delivered at the 1963 March on Washington, alongside other landmark texts such as the «Letter from Birmingham Jail», the «Beyond Vietnam» address, and his final speech, «I've Been to the Mountaintop», delivered the night before his assassination. His words combined biblical cadence, constitutional appeal, and prophetic urgency, making his speeches enduring documents of both rhetoric and moral argument.
