Sobre el artista
George the Poet is the stage name of George Mpanga, a British spoken word artist and poet from Neasden, north-west London, of Ugandan descent. He emerged in the early 2010s from London's poetry and grime-adjacent scenes, fusing rap cadence, oratory and social commentary into a distinct spoken-word style that sits between poetry and rap rather than fitting neatly into either.
His work is marked by dense wordplay, personal storytelling and a strong focus on themes of race, class, mental health and life in modern Britain, often drawing on his own upbringing on a council estate. He built his profile through mixtapes and singles such as «Cat D» and «My City», and through collaborations with UK rap and grime artists including Wretch 32, Krept & Konan, Mikill Pane and Naughty Boy, which brought his spoken-word approach to wider hip-hop and pop audiences.
Beyond music, George the Poet is known for the acclaimed podcast series «Have You Heard George's Podcast?», which blends narrative journalism, poetry and music, earning him major broadcasting awards and cementing his reputation as one of the most distinctive voices to bridge British spoken word, rap and pop culture.
