Suli Breaks

Suli Breaks is an English spoken word poet and performer, born in Wood Green, London, best known for viral YouTube videos that critique the modern education system. His breakout piece, «Why I Hate School But Love Education» (2012), spread widely online and established him as a leading voice in the spoken word movement, followed by the equally popular «I Will Not Let an Exam Result Decide My Fate» (2013).

Before turning to performance poetry full-time, Breaks studied Law at the University of Sheffield, an experience that fed directly into his most famous work: his poems interrogate the value society places on grades and credentials versus genuine learning and self-worth. His delivery is direct and rhythmic, closer to rap cadence than traditional spoken word, which helped his videos travel far beyond typical poetry audiences and into mainstream and educational discourse.

Breaks has built a body of work that extends beyond the education theme into topics like identity, family, and social pressure, with pieces such as «Parents Are the Hardest People to Please» and «Message From the Millennial Generation». His stage name, coined by a friend, plays on his birth name Suliaman and the idea of upending expectations — a fitting description of a career built on challenging conventional wisdom about success.
