Scott Cawthon

Scott Cawthon is an American indie game developer, animator and writer based in Texas, best known as the creator of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. Before FNAF, he worked for years on small, largely overlooked games and animated projects, including Christian-themed titles, without finding commercial success.

The turning point came after harsh criticism of his game Chipper and Sons Lumber Co., whose characters were compared to unsettling animatronics — a reaction that sent Cawthon into a difficult period but ultimately inspired the concept behind Five Nights at Freddy's, released in 2014. The game's mix of jump scares, ominous phone-call narration and lore delivered through in-game audio logs became a defining formula for the series and spawned numerous sequels.

Rather than a traditional musician, Cawthon is present on Lyricser primarily through the spoken audio content embedded in his games — phone call transcripts, ending speeches and voice lines from titles like FNAF 2, FNAF 3, FNAF 6 and Ultimate Custom Night. These recordings, delivered by voice actors reading his scripts, carry the atmospheric storytelling and dark humor that made the franchise a cultural phenomenon well beyond the horror-gaming niche.
