About the artist

Robert Frost was an American poet, born in San Francisco, California, who later settled in New England, the region whose rural landscapes, farms and harsh winters became the defining backdrop of his work. Writing in accessible, colloquial language and traditional verse forms, he explored the everyday lives of New England farmers and used natural imagery to probe deeper questions about isolation, mortality, choice and the human condition.

His breakthrough came after a period spent in England, where he published his first collections and formed connections with other poets, before returning to the United States as an established literary figure. Poems such as «The Road Not Taken», «Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening», «Mending Wall» and «Nothing Gold Can Stay» became some of the most widely read and taught works in American poetry, admired for their surface simplicity that conceals darker, more ambiguous meanings beneath.

Frost received four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry over his career, an unmatched achievement, and became one of the most celebrated American poets of the twentieth century, reciting his work at John F. Kennedy's presidential inauguration in 1961. His later poems, including «Directive» and «The Most of It», continued to explore themes of solitude and meaning against the backdrop of the natural world.
