Howard Zinn

Howard Zinn was an American historian, playwright, war veteran and political activist best known for his landmark work «A People's History of the United States», which recounts American history from the perspective of ordinary people, workers, women and marginalized groups rather than political and economic elites. Born in Brooklyn in 1922, he served as a bombardier in World War II before earning a doctorate and becoming a professor of history and political science.

Zinn taught at Spelman College and later Boston University, where he became known for combining scholarship with direct engagement in the civil rights and anti-war movements. He described his own politics as somewhere between anarchism and democratic socialism, and his writing consistently challenged conventional, top-down narratives of American history.

While not a musician, Zinn's ideas and text have been adapted into audio and spoken-word recordings, including narrated chapters of «A People's History of the United States» and its youth-oriented adaptation, which circulate as audiobook-style tracks. His work remains widely taught and cited as a foundational text of people's history and grassroots political education, influencing generations of historians, activists and educators.
