Harper Lee

Harper Lee, born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Alabama, was an American novelist best remembered for «To Kill a Mockingbird» (1960), a story of racial injustice in the Depression-era South seen through the eyes of a child. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize and became one of the most widely read works of twentieth-century American literature, later adapted into an acclaimed film starring Gregory Peck.

Lee was famously private, giving few interviews after her debut and declining to publish a second novel for decades. In 2015 «Go Set a Watchman» appeared, an earlier draft written in the 1950s that shared characters and setting with her famous book. Both works drew on the attitudes she witnessed growing up in the segregated South.
