Dusty Rhodes (Wrestler)
About the artist
Dusty Rhodes, born Virgil Runnels Jr., was an American professional wrestler known as «The American Dream», one of the most influential and beloved figures in wrestling history. Working primarily for the National Wrestling Alliance and later World Championship Wrestling, he built his fame on a rare combination of a rough, working-class persona and extraordinary skill as a talker.
His song «Hard Times» reflects the character that made him famous: a self-proclaimed son of a plumber who spoke directly to blue-collar fans about struggle and perseverance, delivered in his unmistakable rasping, rhythmic promo style. That connection to everyday people, expressed through his signature interviews, made him a crossover cultural figure well beyond the wrestling ring.
Beyond his in-ring career, Rhodes was a celebrated booker and trainer who shaped the careers of numerous future stars, and he continued working as an authority figure and commentator into the 2000s. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s defining personalities.
