About the artist

Anis Mojgani is an American spoken word poet and performance artist born on June 13, 1977, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to an Iranian father and an African-American mother. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 1999 and a graduate degree from the same institution in 2001, before dedicating himself to the competitive poetry slam circuit that would define much of his early career.

Mojgani is a two-time winner of the National Poetry Slam championship, a rare achievement that established him as one of the most respected voices in American spoken word. His poems, including pieces like «Shake The Dust» and «The Fisherman», are known for blending vivid, image-rich language with an intensely musical, performative delivery, work that critics have noted reads as beautifully on the page as it sounds on stage. He has toured extensively, performing and lecturing at universities across the United States, and has published multiple collections of his poetry.

As both a page poet and a stage performer, Mojgani occupies a distinctive place within the American spoken word and slam poetry tradition, bridging literary craft with the immediacy of live performance. He has lived in Austin, Texas.
