Adam Oehlenschläger

Adam Oehlenschläger (1779–1850) was a Danish poet and playwright, widely regarded as the leading figure of Danish Romanticism. He is best known today as the author of the lyrics to «Der er et yndigt land» («There Is a Lovely Land»), which became the national anthem of Denmark, a song still sung at official occasions and deeply woven into Danish national identity.

Beyond the anthem, Oehlenschläger was a prolific writer of poetry and drama who helped shape a new Danish literary voice at the turn of the 19th century, drawing on Norse mythology and national historical themes to articulate a Romantic vision of Danish culture and identity. His work had a lasting influence on Danish letters and on how later generations understood the country's cultural heritage.

Within the context of song and lyrics, Oehlenschläger stands apart from typical recording artists: he is remembered not as a performer but as the poet whose words, set to music, became one of the most enduring pieces of Danish national song, still performed and recognized generations after his death.
